3,000 homeless youngsters in Birmingham gets Easter treat from Freemasons

More than 3,000 kids in homeless accommodation across Birmingham and Warwickshire are to get an Easter egg after loving donations from a city charity.

Warwickshire Freemasons have partnered with The Buddy Bag Foundation to buy up 3,000 Easter eggs for the youngsters, being distributed this weekend.

The two charities first teamed up after joining Birmingham Live’s Brumwish appeal at Christmas and realising the desperate need among kids living in temporary accommodation.

The head of Warwickshire Freemasons, Philip Hall said: “Warwickshire Freemasons were first made aware that the region had over 3,000 homeless children in B&Bs and refuges, when we joined the BrumWish campaign, organised by Birmingham Live/Mail, which provided Christmas presents for these disadvantaged children.

“Since then we have made these children a priority and have donated a further £10,000, via the Birmingham Education Partnership, to help 120 children gain access to the internet for six months.

“Sending Easter Eggs to these children seemed a natural extension of our support – just to let them know, in some small way, that Freemasons and their wider community do care about them at this difficult time.”

Morrison’s Alvis store in Coventry provided the eggs at a discounted rate and gave shoppers the option to donate, he said.
