Hour of Slack #1627 – Unexpected Second Hour!

Rev. Stang unexpectedly had to fill in for Dr. Sinister, whose show Radio Synaesthesia usually follows Hour of Slack on WCSB-Cleveland. Failing to grok the station’s new “wav cart” machine, Stang made up a Public Service Announcement off the top of his head on a subject with which he’s had experience, heart attacks. Playing the score for “Lucifer Rising” in the background, Stang read long stretches from Lonesome Cowboy Dave’s novel “Neighborworld” and an even longer stretch from “The Bobliographon” about why suicide is probably a bad idea. Then Stang played some of his own favorite music, just like a regular college radio DJ: “Auld Land Syne” done by Jimi Hendrix at the Filmore East; ESO’s version of “Sounds of Silence;” Elvis Costello’s “Goon Squad;” “Luck Be a Lady” from Guys and Dolls; “Battle of the Roses” by The Rainmakers, Captain Beefheart’s “Trust Us,” and finally Herb Alpert doing “Zorba the Greek”! Just like a REAL radio show! Also, we completely forgot to post this episode last week. It was a busy week.
