Hour of Slack #1648 – Winterstar 2001

We managed to stay on Show schedule through our move from Ohio to Texas, but the strenuous unpacking process was what finally got the best of us and put us behind by a week. We’re catching up with reruns, this one being a great example of the Hours of Slack from the early 2000s that relied on plenty of ESO Swamp Radio (WCSB Cleveland by host Chas Smith, with Ivan Stang and Lonesome Cowboy Dave) and The Puzzling Evidence Show on KPFA Berkeley by host Puzzling Evidence and cohosts Dr. Hal and Dr. Philo Drummond. We had a lot more fresh collages coming in via Usenet in those days too, in this case by Rev. nu-monet and Jupiter Research. This episode features some clips from the Stang sermon with ESO live back-up at Winterstar Symposium, and the ESO song “Wilderness of “Bob”” performed live there. Winterstar was a smaller, indoor version of Starwood held by A.C.E. of Cleveland and it elicited great gut blowout. It ended because the excellent rural Ohio everything-goes resort folded. Today there is an annual Winterstar Ball held at The Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland until another anything-goes winter indoor resort can be found in Northern Ohio. If it happens we’ll be there!
